4 MINUTE GUIDE

Why mould returns after you paint over it

Paint can hide a stain for a short time. It cannot remove active growth, dry a wet surface or repair the moisture route behind the problem.

The stain is a symptom

Visible mould grows where moisture and suitable material meet. Painting changes the colour of the surface, but it does not explain whether the moisture comes from condensation, a leak, water entry or a cold area with limited airflow.

Why the new coating can fail

If active growth, loose paint, contamination or excess moisture remains, a new coating may discolour, blister, peel or allow mould to reappear. Preparation and drying matter as much as the finish coat.

The responsible order of work

OREA works in a clear sequence: consider the likely cause, assess the quoted surface, treat it appropriately, allow suitable drying, repair sound surfaces, apply compatible primer or stain blocker where needed, and then decorate.

When a coating can help

A suitable anti-mould or condensation-resistant coating may support a complete system in the right room. It is not a substitute for repairing leaks, improving failed extraction or addressing another continuing moisture source.
